The DSLR-A900 is designed to deliver ultra-fine picture quality with the world’s highest resolution, 24.6-megapixel, 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor and fast image processing with a new dual BIONZ processing engines. Amateur Photographer published a review about Sony Alpha 900 in a 9 page article. It is an in depth review describing build, handling, white balance, color and dynamic balance. An extract of the review regarding the Sony Alpha 900 noise performance:

The problem (Sony Alpha 900) is noise reduction. Chroma noise can be seen sneaking into low-contrast areas of images taken at ISO 400, and even with noise reduction turned to its lowest setting, detail appears to be smoothed slightly in JPEG files. Oddly, noise reduction is also applied to raw files, which means that anyone shooting in raw+JPEG mode is not capturing a completely ‘raw’ image alongside the JPEG if NR is turned on. I would say that beyond ISO 800, the advantage of the Alpha 900’s many photosites is steadily eroded by noise reduction.

SAL-50F14 50mm f/1.4 Lens

Dpreview tested the Sony 50mm F1.4 review on APS-C and Full Frame DSLR namely the Sony Alpha 700 and Sony Alpha 900. Some extract from the review:

It gives excellent image quality when stopped down, but struggles somewhat when used wide open, showing common problems such as corner softness, halation, bokeh chromatic aberration, and vignetting on full frame.

Sony 50mm F1.4 clearly does have characteristics which make it a superior performer on the APS-C format. It shows unusually high central sharpness, making it rather more suited to shooting at large apertures than most of its peers. I
