Mini A9: Sony RX100 VI

Last Updated on

Sony released the 6th revision of their widely popular 1″ Sensor RX100 series premium point and shot camera this week. I personally love travelling with my RX100 III due to its size and photo quality.

So, what are the great features packed in the RX100 VI:

  • Maintains compact body size of acclaimed RX100 series while adding a ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* 24-200mm F2.8 – F4.5 Large Aperture High Magnification Zoom Lens
    • The camera maintains apertures of F4 at 100mm and F4.5 at 200mm
  • World’s Fastest 0.03 seconds AF speed combined with 315 focal-plane phase-detection AF points covering approximately 65% of frame
    • Advanced Eye AF, ideal for portrait shots
  • 1.0-type stacked 20.1 MP Exmor RS™ CMOS image sensor with DRAM chip and upgraded BIONZ X™ image processor and Front-end LSI
    • The 1.0-type CMOS sensor employs an innovative stacked structure to boost processing speed, while its back-illumination technology increases light collection efficiency to achieve a wide sensitivity range (ISO 80-12800) with reduced noise
  • High-speed continuous shooting at up to 24 fps with full AF/AE tracking
    • The continuous shooting feature captures up to 24 frames per second and up to 233 continuous shots
  • Optical image stabilization equivalent to a 4.0-stop faster shutter speed
  • High Resolution 4K Movie Shooting with full pixel readout and no pixel binning plus 4K HDR for instant HDR workflow
    • HDR (High Dynamic Range) video, with its wider range of colour and brightness, is now ready to enjoy without extra processing thanks to HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) recording capability
    • S-Gamut and S-Log3 shooting give you greater flexibility in post-production
  • Touch focus features make shifting focus intuitive
  • Convenient one-push access to the electronic viewfinder

Overall Impression

What do you think about the R100 VI? Are you going to get one due to its long 200mm zoom and great 4K HDR video recording feature? Or you are hoping for the RX100 V to reduce its price? I am not really a fan of F2.8-F4.5, I think I am happy to sacrifice zoom to get a F1.8-F2.8 24-70mm RX100 V.
